Are you a clinic or a spa?

We are both. In the spa, we offer traditional ayurvedic treatments for the body, mind and spirit, performed by our expert ayurvedic therapists. In our clinic, Dr. Pratima Raichur offers ayurvedic consultations to balance a vast array of health and skin concerns.

What does an Ayurvedic consultation consist of and how long is it?

Each consultation is different as each person is unique. Dr. Pratima Raichur will personally work with you to address any skin and health concerns you may have. A consultation is an effective and proven way to heal, treat and remedy imbalances by using a combination of internal and external regimes, prescribed herbs, and optimal nutritional guidelines, all in accordance with your particular dosha (link to dosha page).  If this is your first consultation, please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment in order to fill out the necessary forms.  Each lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Are phone consultations just as effective as in-person consultations?

While it is a unique and wonderful experience to sit in person with Dr. Raichur, phone consultations for those who are unable to visit with us in person, are just as effective and intimate an experience. How do I find the best diet/nutrition for my Dosha?

How soon should I arrive before my spa treatment?

For spa treatments, we suggest that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. This will allow you to change into your robe, fill out any necessary paperwork, relax and have some tea, so that your service will start on time.

Should I eat before or after my spa treatment?

It is best to eat lightly 1-2 hours before your treatment.  There should be no problem having a meal afterwards.   

How do I know which treatment service is best for me?

We would be more than happy to help you choose a treatment, as there are times when certain ayurvedic treatments are most appropriate. However, please note that all of our services are customized to each guest's specific skin type, condition and dosha.

What should I wear?

Before your spa treatment, you will be provided with a robe, disposable undergarment and slippers.  Please note, in most of our body treatment, we use pure, organic oils. We do have a shower, for your convenience, in case you wish to remove the oils from your head and body, however we strongly recommend keeping them on for a few hours to reap optimal benefits.  Please choose your clothing accordingly.

Can I wear makeup to my appointment?

During facials, your makeup will be removed for you. If you are scheduled for a massage or a consultation and would like to remove your makeup beforehand, we will be more than happy to provide you with the appropriate products to do so.

Do you offer prenatal and postnatal massage?

Yes, we offer both prenatal and postnatal massage.  For prenatal massage, we recommend having a treatment only between 5-7 months of term.

If I am menstruating, can I have a massage?

When making an appointment, keep in mind that it is not advised to have an Abhyanga during the first three days of menstruation.  If your period comes on the day of your massage appointment, there are other services that we can offer in its place.

Do you have waxing services?

Yes. We offer waxing services that finish with Neem treatment, so that the skin remains calm, clear and silky.

Do you offer manicures/pedicures?

We do not offer manicures and pedicures.

Do you sell Gift Certificates?

Yes!  You can order Gift Certificates by phone or email, for any service, treatment, consultation, or specified dollar amount.  Please note that if you choose a treatment and the recipient would like something different, we will gladly accommodate their request.

What is the standard for Gratuity?

It is customary in New York to pay an extra 15-20% of your service fee towards the therapist.  However, gratuity is always completely at your discretion and we deeply appreciate whatever amount you are able to leave.  For your convenience, you will find envelopes at the reception area or you may include gratuity on your credit card. 

What method of payment do you accept?

We accept Cash, Visa, and Mastercard. Sorry, no checks or money orders.

How do I know which skincare products are best for me?

We can guide you in person or over the phone in assessing your skin type and finding the right products for you. You can also visit pratimaskincare.com and fill out the dosha test on the home page for product recommendations. However if you've been experiencing a long-standing and difficult skin condition, we recommend having a consultation with Dr. Raichur. 

Are there other ingredients in your products that are not listed on the label?

We believe that you, as the consumer, have the right to know what you are using on your skin.  Therefore, we have listed every ingredient on our labels, no more, no less.

How long is the shelf life of PRATIMA products?

Since PRATIMA products do not contain any chemicals or preservatives, due to our beliefs in maintaining your safety and the purity, integrity, and effectiveness of the herbs, flowers and oils, the shelf life ranges from 4 to 8 months depending on the product.

Where should I store PRATIMA products?

PRATIMA products are best kept away from sunlight and moisture. 

Can I have products shipped to me?

How do I return products?

If you have opened or tested the product you have purchased and are not happy with the results, you may bring the item back to the spa, within 14 days, for store credit where we will do our best to try and find the right product for you. For products that are unused, you may return within 7 days for a full refund.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

We require 24 hours notice when canceling an appointment.  Failure to do so will result in a 100% charge of your scheduled appointment.  

What's the difference between Bindi and Pratima?

The PRATIMA line is Dr. Raichur's most current & specialized organic ayurvedic skincare line. Bindi was one of Dr. Pratima Raichur's first ayurvedic skincare lines, developed over 30 years ago. However, currently many of Bindi's products such as Bindi body lotions, Bindi shampoos, Bindi sunscreen and Bindi moisture creams Vata, Pitta, Kapha; are NOT manufactured by Dr. Raichur.
